Flameless candle shells can be made using real wax or plastic. Candle shells made using real wax are for indoor use. Not all wax shells are the same. ARTEMIS® uses virgin paraffin wax which is more expensive but provides better color consistency and higher quality. Inexpensive candle shells may use recycled paraffin wax which needs to be bleached prior to making into a shell which affects color consistency and lowers overall quality. Plastic candle shells are for outdoor use.
It is not recommended to use any wax flameless candle outdoors. The melting point of a wax flameless candle shell, depending on the wax type, is typically between 129°-140° F. However, the wax can begin to soften, deform and discolor at temperatures lower than that. For this reason, flameless candles with plastic shells are recommended for outdoor use. These flameless candles should also be designed to be weather resistant.
Traditional candles are frequently scented. They work when the wax is melted by the heat of the candle flame. Fragrance is released from the melted wax then lifted in the heat stream of the candle flame. Since flameless candles do not have a real flame, they cannot melt wax or help lift the fragrance in the heat stream. As a result, most flameless candles are unscented.
There are two ways to set the timer on an ARTEMIS flameless candles. 1.) Access the switch on the bottom of the flameless candle. There are 3 switch positions: “ON/REMOTE”, “OFF”, and “6HR TIMER”. Set the switch to the “6HR TIMER” position. The flameless can will operate for 6 hours then turn off for 18 hours repeating this cycle daily until the switch is moved to a different position, or 2.) Set the switch to the “ON/REMOTE” position, then use an ARTEMIS remote control (sold separately) to set different timers.
All ARTEMIS pillar candles 2 X C batteries, figurine candles use 2 X AA batteries and 10” taper candles use 2 X AAA batteries.
While ARTEMIS does not endorse a specific battery brand, to achieve best performance it is recommended to use new, premium alkaline batteries.

ARTEMIS has several patents on flameless candle lighting technology. Whether choosing CalmFlame® (visible flame) or BrightWick® (glow flame), these patented designs provide the most realistic flame simulation. The greatest benefit of these lighting designs is it allows for the candle shell to be any color or design. Other flameless candles offer few colors or designs because the lighting technology limits what can be offered.

I bought two of the Ashley Blue Embossed 3×6 Calm Flame candles for my wife, and she absolutely loved them. The design looks beautiful in person, and the flickering light makes them look like real candles without the worry of an actual flame.
